Disaster Planning Additional Ideas

Here is my friend’s reasonable disaster plans:

I do stuff that is general and reasonable. I spent $25 on a first kit includes 2 GSW dressings. That’s reasonable. I keep 3-days of 3 meals for myself and my wife in the house at all times sealed in plastic with toilet paper batteries and medicine. It costs me < $30 bux and I redo it every 12-18 months. That's reasonable. I have a paper map of Home Town and State in case I need to walk out with no GPS/smartphone/tech gear. < $10 invested, reasonable. I have a box of 100 sandbags in the attic at the cost of $20 bux. I could build a 2-foot sandbag wall around the back of my house and possibly prevent water damage. At $20 bux, it's a reasonable expense. Both of our cars have first aid kits, water, and gloves that I keep stocked. When it's cold, I keep blankets. Not weeks worth but enough that if the car breaks down and you have to wait for hours to get help, you can stay warm and hydrated. If you have to walk to get help the water and blankets help for that as well. I do things that are reasonable. I looked into the KI stuff and came to the conclusion it wasn't reasonable to hoard a bunch of pills on the extremely remote chance there could be a radiation leak nearby. I'm better off stocking up on antibiotics or diabetes meds that I am WAY more likely to need than iodide pills. Besides, I can get iodine from common table salt and other natural sources that are far less likely to overdose me. My Pluses: I never let our prescriptions get below two weeks. Takes some getting pills when first available through insurance but once ahead with diligence you can stay ahead. I stay ahead on supplies for our cat and have a carrying case she can see out of just in case she is in there for awhile. Question: Do you have a preferred source for water storage containers? I have four ways. First I always keep 1-2 cases of bottled water at home and several in the car. Second I have a water bob I can put in the tub and fill when needed. If a bad storm is coming I can put it in the and fill it I know the weight isn't a problem because it's a bathtub. It's made to handle the water weight. Third. In my bug out bag I have two filter straws. You can just put them in whatever water and drink it. Filters as you draw it through. For if the water runs out after we leave. Four, We also keep canned sparkling water in the house. Travels very easy and will ease an upset stomach much the same as Alia seltzer but without aspirin.
