I like this, plus with my iPhone scriptures I have them with me. I take mine out standing in line, and have lost track of how many times I’ve had someone tell me that they use the Mormon app too and the LDS Bible videos app. I ask if they use the links, they say favorable comments, and ask if they know a Mormon. I tell them they do not have to pick a church, it goes by their address, Mormon.org, (then fast) business attire, no standing, no reading together, sacrament to all, song numbers sign, kids coloring, shy.

I took my wife out for Valentine’s Day to her favorite places to Joann fabrics Fabrics & Hobby Lobby and then to lunch.

I have a habbit from my mission, I talk to a lot of people. I had a great conversation about Lent with a Greek Orthodox women while waiting in line to have fabric cut, I asked her about Lent and found out about their different calendar,  she ask about me and I told her I am a Mormon, we are Christians too; I told her that the interesting thing she would find was the Mormons have the sacrament every week and about the 12, 14, 16-year-old boys and what they do, every week. She asked if we have any special celebrations. I told her about Pioneer Day parades. I told her that the part that she would find interesting was about the different organizational towers in Mormonism, about each congregation having their own relief society presidents and about the relief Society president, counselors and committee in Salt Lake. About the primary, young women’s, and young men’s towers as well. She said she really liked that and that was the most appealing thing about mormonism she’s ever heard. Her fabric-line number came up.

I really appreciate it when these are broadcast. I have found them to be broadcast when pages like this do not talk about how to get online and see them. I wish they would say if they were going to be ever broadcast either live or in the future, because sometimes I waste a lot of time trying to find them later when they have decided for some reason not to broadcast them. Live or not does not matter to me, conference quality or not does not matter to me either. I greatly appreciate the times they have broadcast them before.

Friday is for tutoring.

I am a big fan of tutoring. As a Senior I started a reading program where students could check out tutoring materials without saying who they were tutoring: boy friend, girl friend, brother, sister, parents, students from other schools. Being anonymous was the key. My question was how do you pronounce GH: Hugh. Light. Ghost.

At BYU I tutored others students, started a class for students where English was hard, my innovation was to use a rhyming dictionary to find words and started with sentence structures with no punctuation except the final period. And I started study groups.

I could relate to this because I was born with a kink in my left main artery which from birth caused long heart pauses, painful restarts with sometimes short term memory loss as a child; therefore, I did everything and plus of service because I never knew if it was my last and I needed the Holy Ghost on a daily basis. One of the idea I was given when starting to be disabled was to watch people in action. BYU Sports Photography have provided excellent cougarettes photos on Twitter.

The game announcers talk over their halftime routines usually just repeating themselves from what they said during the first half of the game, I think broadcasting them could increase the following:

“That’s what really connects us: being involved in something so joyful and positive and just really brings people together,” Larsen said. “Even those that I wasn’t with, we still all feel that connection because we’ve all had that feeling that we love.”

I think they should cheer at other events like freshman orientation, forums, graduation, commercial breaks on BYUtv… I think it would send the same joyous and supportive feeling of high-energy that should permeate BYU. Raising the bar!

I have found that in situations where I want to pray, I also want to cheer (shout) encouragement to my Heavenly Father, into my Savior and into the Holy Ghost. 

I believe that we should express gratitude for others and beyond that I believe we should express encouragement.

Too often we find ourselves like the apostles asleep next to the Garden of Gethsemane when the Savior needs our supportive encouragement. 

Giving Them encouragement, I think goes beyond giving Them comfort, expressed as gratitude.

Comfort always seemed to be static to me, where encouragement is dynamic. I think of Godhood as being very active.

I have lived long enough to see these types of studies reverse themselves. As a Senior in Utah, I handed out a translation chart prior to a study of by an eastern university of High School kids. We got government grant money without requesting, and lots of questions from the other Utah High-School Principals who didn’t. After they quit asking, I gave a copy to my Principal. Who read it, crumbled it up and threw it in his trash can. My fellow students sometimes really impressed me, I think there are sociopolitical knowledge learned in that culture; which while I learned to leverage it some, never quite could estimate their total capability.

While at BYU, I encountered a young man in the wheelchair who was stuck between two electric doors, the doors were both controlled from an electric switch button on the outside of the building. I ask him if I could help and he barked that he could do it himself. The first door had opened and he had rolled between the doors but the second door had closed trapping him.

My dilemma, how to help him but not help him. I went to the helpdesk, they actually had a switch to the throw that would open all the doors. That got him out. But was I really done helping, I felt unsure which meant no. 

I went upstairs and found the person in charge of the building, I requested a second door opening button that was between the two doors. He said that it had to be requested at the administration office. I walked across campus and filled out a form and talked to a person. Did he ever use this second interior button, I don’t know that wasn’t the point. I checked later to make sure that the button had happened. I still wasn’t sure, which meant the answer was no. 

I started looking for missing ramps and door buttons and testing buttons and filling out more forms.

This is amazingly close to my current understanding of heavens and hell, which is quite different from what I commonly heard preached when I was younger. We were often taught the fire and brimstone version of hell, that had devels with pitchforks. From a very young age I had believed that they were trying to describe extreme cold as fire.

I remember taking seminary of the history of the church which referred to the Doctrine and Covenants, and they’re being quite an argument as to what we had been taught before and what we were being taught in the lesson which was more about the history of the church then the actual Doctrine and Covenants. I had my first personal copy went on my mission, I received my first personal copy of the Book of Mormon in seminary. One of the lessons referred to the three degrees of glory but this article is a better description.

By the time I took a Doctrine and Covenants class at Brigham Young University, I had learned a lot already. There were students who argued with the teacher who was reading the Scriptures as they are written. From a young age I had found the Scriptures – read in context of what was happening – easier to understand by themselves then the descriptions of I was told they said except for my BYU Doctrine and Covenants teacher

The concept of small temples has greatly accelerated temple building in recent years. In June 1997 Gordon B. Hinckley attended the centennial observance of Church-owned JuÁrez Academy in Colonia JuÁrez, Mexico. While driving back to the airport in El Paso, Texas, he reflected on how to help faithful Saints in outlying areas receive the blessings of the temple. Once on the airplane, he made this sketch of a floor plan for a smaller temple with only the essential facilities. He announced the concept at the October 1997 general conference, and by August 1998 the first small temple had been completed in Monticello, Utah. Washington • Delivering his last annual sermon to Washington’s elite, President Barack Obama on Thursday warned of the corrosive impact of fear in public life and urged a bipartisan group of power brokers to abide by their faith “even when no one is watching.”

“Fear does funny things. Fear can lead us to lash out against those who are different. Or lead us to try to get some sinister other under control,” Obama said at the annual National Prayer Breakfast. “Faith is the great cure for fear. Jesus is a good cure for fear.”

Obama, too, has said “our thoughts and prayers are not enough.”

“The attitude in some quarters these days is, ‘Don’t just pray; do something about it,'” Ryan said. “The thing is, when you are praying, you are doing something about it. You are revealing the presence of God.”

One of the best things about being in SLC my Senior year was the SLC Library. My English teacher had written her thesis on what was the earliest meeting of Elizabeth Barrett and Robert Browning in person, I went to the SLC Library. I normally started with the Dewey Decimal System book, a giant, luckily they had one. I stood where it had directed for over an hour (courtesy and respect to her), then I removed the bottom rows books and reached down through the gap between the books backs, ta-dah, rare books under the floor; not in the card catalog but in the Dewey Decimal System. I reserved one for her with a bookmark. Addendum.

My first three years of Seminary were near the very center of the United States, no matter how deep the snow. A couple of times we were the few at the High School. We had a couple of keys, without a teacher… we shared teaching, when we did we assigned a minutes taker. The cold did not bother us anyway, the church was not heated beyond the kitchen and bathroom pipes, the room big enough for us was not heatable fast enough anyway. A couple of times no electricity, a couple of flashlights we kept in the storage room.

In the 9th grade I was asked to teach a Primary class on the resurrection, I took three weeks with the older primary boys. They requested other topics, adults attended when I repeated the first three classes with boys teaching my chalk board outline. I taught through moving to Utah my Senior year. In High School I could out running the other boys (no hurdles) short up to mile, but needed to be late by 20 minutes once a week and my none Mormon track coach would not allow a Mormon to, while being very verbal about my insistence on continuing to teach Primary. We were load, the Primary President cracked the door; yelling the scripture references were remembered, marching while reading the scriptures were remembered, standing in a circle increased participation, tossing around a green donut (wood with a hole) to speak increased reverence and… games, puzzles… laughing and cheering and being sad together… she moved us away from the other classes.

When I was in Junior High (my graduation class was 1969, straight As my Senior year), I took typing, sounds like no big deal Well it was. Boys took wood and metal shop, girls took sewing and typing, only. It took state school board permission. In the 7th grade I had written a future job description of tying electric typewriters to televisions together, there were no electric typewriters in my hometown. My projection was between desktops and laptops. My father paid half and somewhere bought me the first one, I already had a mimeograph machine (printing). My poetry magazines improved. The state got my job paper, poetry magazines and a description of typing my college papers and own thesis. Typing class improved my speed! Carriage return moved from a lever to a button. I could type through three carbons, took in work. While at BYU, I maintained a Group (LDS Stake program for helping youth return to attending their home Ward) prayer list (amazing stories by youth and LDS leaders who had (when) youth add their names).

When he died, I felt alone. I had a dream real enough that I remember it well. In a bank parking lot on Main Street in SLC, we talked about allowing evil to happen. It was right after I had taken a severe personal risk to save a life, with the help of my team at Eaton Kenway. I should have followed his advise better and fear that my current circumstance is the result. Too ill to survive starting over again. Too energetic in fighting evil that I can not get others to resist the desire to cause me harm. I wish he was still alive, I felt safer. My main Gift of the Holy Spirit is verse 14, he provided 13:

D&C 46: 13 To some it is given by the Holy Ghost to know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that he was crucified for the sins of the world.

14 To others it is given to believe on their words, that they also might have eternal life if they continue faithful.

This gift is a two-way sword because the betral of those with this gift by those who have come to believe they are the followers of Christ cuts them deeply. And Satan knowing those can use the carelessness and sometimes intentions of fellow followers of Christ, their group or quorum, and even their leaders to hack at their believing in their words. I believe this is the gateway gift too many of the other gives and that the Nones have this gift and that Satan uses it against them driving them out of organized religions. Satans being able to use others to weekend this gift, weekends the other possible gifts. This is his main tool in causing harm to me and explains my current predicament, along with my drawing too much attention to me exhausting myself.

The level of harm described is restrained to avoid expressing more than meek can bear, breaking their hearts in sympathy for the harmed. Listen to the healing voices, that the negative voices try to drown out. Dark forces want to use the harm by leveraging and spreading, the positive voices need our help to protect the meek.

I moved from the Midwest to Bountiful my Senior Year, Seminary was one year off. I attended with Juniors, all girls Ackward. I went to the graduation ceremony, more Ackward. Senior class by class, row by row, sheet by sheet, done the Stake Seminary leaders sat down. The Stake President said he had one more student to describe, ending in Yes Kevin You. A too long walk down, nurveous laughter as I obviously facked a reluctant stroll like a toddler going to the Principal’s office. He turned the podium over to me, I asked him How long, 15, anticipatory laughter as I mischievously paused. Then I cheerlead, Lets make this load enough to hear in heaven, We graduate in the name of Jesus Christ, (getting louder) Amen Amen Amen (fists pumping together). Then we went to the Garden imagining we were the comforting Angel, then as soldiers in the legends in heaven watching in readiness to be called and not interrupting, then as angels rolling back the stone in anticipation and the releaf of joy, then we listened to the sound of crying among us; interrupted by the Stakeholder President suddenly putting his hand on my shoulder, saying that was enough loud Amens (I could feel him trembling), he said that he had been out in the hallway because some neighbors and people driving by had come, due to the feeling, not the sound; more laughter, Together comfortable. I am not sure I get this, as I do not remember being pressured to read any of these volumns like jumping hurdles. They have always felt more like the teacher was allowing notes to be passed during a test; some left by friends who had left them to help me, written when they were earlier taking the test. Notes from dear friends whom I would thank later out in the hallway; comparing how each of us has faired, me doing better thanks to their help.

Charity can also be to ourselves, self resilience. I suffer chronic pain which I call a rolling sea. I save photos in a folder I named Supernal, links in a study diary, and Tweets: photos are screenshots from moments I was touched in LDS videos and images from LDS websites; links to positive LDS content; Tweets, supportive comforting quotes. Acts of kindness to myself, when I am jolted awake in the night or unkind acts of others drive me beneath the waves, these stored acts of self-relient mercy help me along with prayer and faith to get back on top.

Saying that God cares a lot more about who we are and who we are becoming than about who we once were does not mean that the Savior is dismissive of the consequences of an individual’s sin on others. In fact, the Savior cares infinitely about those who suffer hurt, pain, and heartache because of another’s transgressions. The Savior “will take upon him [His people’s] infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, … that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities” (Alma 7:12).

I’ve never had a person unjustly cause me harm whom I did not forgive, I worry about the Savior suffering for their sins and rush to forgive them to avoid adding to the Savior suffering by my failing to forgive; but I worry that my forgiving them will cause them not to repent resulting in the Savior suffering to have been in vain. However, I try to avoid them being in the situation that provided the context that afforded them the opportunity to cause that harm; thereby, trying to reduce the Savior suffering. I give them time away from me to change to overcome the evil influences and then I go back just long enough to see if the desire to let evil overwhelm them again to harm me, hopefully embracing them again in friendship but sometimes cutting the time short to protect my Lord again.

Some answers come with time and a lot of work. Be patient with yourself, and trust in God’s timing.

My answer after the talk. Both live and now, I am trying (as my study blog shows) to never give up.

One of lesson learned: why? because they can not heal themselves without Christ and they can not transform their Church experience into a haven of safety, a house of healing, without the Savior’s followers help. The power comes from the Saviors’ side to them, the power to create the haven is from inside the house.

When they pray without Mormonism, I can see them receiving a similar answer. Depending on their experience with Mormons and Mormonism, and knowledge of Mormonism has been… a qualified answer. However, they have the faith in Christ required  in Moroni 10: 3 through 5.
