If I was allowed to add to the following talk from my experience in defense engineering? I would talk about today’s attack helicopters. The pilot identifies himself and the helicopter adjusts to him to enable maximum performance, much like after identifying ourselves in prayer the Holy Ghost adjusts to us. This helicopter can sense threats, warn the pilot and even begin defensives itself if the attack is faster than the pilots capability to respond. The pilot has to have studied, developed skills and can sense slight changes in the helicopters sensors and through his senses. The helicopter goes where the pilot directs, even directly into danger; the pilot needs to realize and direct advance (attack) with increased defend mode. You can see the parallels, with the goal of enduring to the end, alive.
President McKay is the prophet of my youth and teen years (1951–1970). Plus, I found a video and recording, which brought back, even stronger, my feelings of love, respect, and gratitude for my prophet.
Remembering my lessons learned:
In Junior High , my Branch President challenged me to learn a different attribute of Christ each month. So I wrote an attributes on a 3 x 5 card and carried one with me in my wallet, discussing it with my friends, looking for it in others, searching Christ’s life and trying to develop each attribute in me. I looked for opportunities to use that attribute, writing usage – failures and success – on the back, for the next loop through the cards.
Later in the ninth grade (1965/6) he gave me several envelopes addressed to him and asked me to give them to various people teachers and friends and enemies, asking them to write what they thought of me. I was pleased to see how many of the attributes were named but was more than a little surprised or disappointed thinking that at least my enemies would tell me significant flaws to improve. (Nearly all recommended getting more rest, but there was no time to rest.)
The major result was that some of my enemies became trusted allies, even calling me their friend; asking for dares. I dared one, their informal leader, to take his grandmother to church. He nicknamed me – Rock – as he heard that upon this rock I will build my church. I asked later in the 11th grade if he was still taking his grandmother to church, he was. I gave him my cards.
