This contest celebrates the wondrous doctrine of the Restoration that we have a Heavenly Mother that oversees our spiritual development, in addition to a Heavenly Father. The first Relief Society President, Eliza R. Snow, famously penned in the LDS Hymn “O, My Father” the truth that we have “a mother there.” But while in heaven, it is important to remember that our Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother are yet present to us now. They bestow upon us their love, gifts, inspiration, and grace, to help us along our earthly journey. As Sister Chieko Okazaki noted, our Father and Mother shower us with love and mercy. Focusing on the access to priesthood power, Dew said, “Too many women think we don’t have this privilege. But that is not true. Women who have been endowed in the temple have as much access to priesthood power for their own lives as ordained men do.”

Priesthood keys are the manner through which the Lord authorizes the use of his power for both women and men, Dew said, adding that there are distinctions between priesthood keys, authority and power.

“Priesthood keys are required to authorize ordinances, priesthood authority is required to perform ordinances, and priesthood power is available to all who worthily receive ordinances and keep the associated covenants. … Both men and women who serve under the direction of priesthood keys serve with divine authority,” she said.

Where spiritual things are concerned, men and women are equal before the Lord and have equal access to the Lord’s highest spiritual privileges, she taught.

“When we serve in any capacity under the direction of those who hold priesthood keys, we have full access to the power that flows through those keys, just as men do,” she said. “We as women never lack for divine authority. Further still, God’s highest ordinances are available only to a man and woman together.”

Access to divine power hinges upon more than what a person knows — it comes as people do all they can as they become a disciple of Jesus Christ. That being said, Dew taught that no matter how much or little an individual does, it is the Savior’s grace that will ultimately save them.”

Kyle North is not your average 8th grader.

Along with being hard of hearing and close to being deaf, Kyle, 14, jumps at any opportunity to share the gospel — including dressing up as a missionary on character dress-up days at school.

He recently made a video presentation on Mormon migration for his National History Day project, complete with pictures and a narration, all on his own.

Kyle’s video placed first in Milwee Middle School’s 2014 School NHD Fair and has received more than 3,200 views on YouTube. His was the only individual documentary to win from his school, he said in email correspondence with the Church News.

He decided to do his project on Mormon migration because he wants to share as much as he can about the Church every chance he gets, he said.

The $1.5 million donation from the Church was presented to H. F. (Gerry) Lenfest, chairman of the museum, on Thursday, 24 April 2014, by Dennis C. Brimhall, president and CEO of FamilySearch International, which is affiliated with the Church.

to sing ceaseless praises with the choirs above, unto the Father, and unto the Son, and unto the Holy Ghost, which are one God, in a state of happiness which hath no end.

Coming to Ourselves: The Sacrament, the Temple, and Sacrifice in Service – general-conference

As we sing the sacrament hymn, participate in the sacrament prayers, and partake of the emblems of His flesh and blood, we prayerfully seek forgiveness for our sins and shortcomings. We think about the promises we made and kept during the previous week and make specific personal commitments to follow the Savior during the coming week.

2. Singing with Emotional Pitch:

Sound sad when singing a sad phrase. Joyous when singing a joyous song. Sing the punctuation.

Directing a joyous song look joyous. Thoughtful, thoughtful. Resolute, resolute.

3. Singing with Vocal Pitch:

Sing the punctuation. Everyone can pause at the commas and periods. Sound questioning at questions, even those not ending with a question mark. Punch the exclamation points.

Anticipate the melody. Let your voice box prepare to start the next word on the melody. What the Priesthood does without a piano.

I noticed, the more people who sing the closer the right pitch, people singing flat canceling out the sharp.

Ward choirs are not formed by auditioning all the Ward members, it’s who volunteered.

Each Ward had a unique combined sound based on the members.

4. Finding your notes of the melody in LDS Hymns.

Everyone can improve their vocal pitch.

We have all listened to someone tune a stringed instrument, violin or guitar. Making a string tighter or looser until it vibrates close enough to sound right to them. Everyone has a different ability to judge that sound.

Few have watched a singer tune their vocal instrument. Even fewer have had someone help them tune their vocal vibrations. Problem is that every vocal sound needs to be adjusted, all the time.

I like to sing while doing chores and driving. My favorite is Leann Rimes, Lady & Gentlemen, 16 Tons.

Top Thing People Do While Driving? Car-aoke

According to a study by DMEautomotive, singing out loud was the top non-driving activity people do in the car — something at least 56 percent of motorists admit to engaging in while behind the wheel. Women are more likely to sing then men: 65 percent to 49 percent, and people under 35 are more likely to rock out (61 percent) than those 35 and over (54 percent).

To me, this is the best example of inclusiveness of the online attendees, me, by providing a feeling of actually being there (via the original program as my menu).

Isaiah 40. Isaiah’s prophecies teach us about the Second Coming and bring us hope to help us endure faithfully to the end. (15–25 minutes)

Isaiah 40 contains some important teachings about the Messiah, Jesus Christ. George Frederick Handel set most of verses 1–11 to music in his work Messiah. If you can obtain a recording, play several selections that quote Isaiah 40. (Selections that quote Isaiah 40 include “Comfort Ye My People,” “Ev’ry Valley Shall Be Exalted,” “And the Glory of the Lord,” “O Thou That Tellest Good Tidings to Zion,” and “He Shall Feed His Flock like a Shepherd.”) Invite class members to listen carefully and then find the reference that was sung. Tell them that people throughout the world sing this music about the Savior and His divine mission, even though many are not even Christians. The music has great power to bring emotional and spiritual responses.

Persecution of religious minorities in the Middle East and central Asia has accelerated in recent years, particularly since the “Arab Spring” swept the Middle East in 2011, Shea noted. Egypt’s Coptic Christians, Syria’s Christian minority and Baha’is in Iraq have all been subject to increasing persecution, imprisonment and violent attacks, including murder. In Pakistan, Ahmadiyya Muslims, Hindus and Christians have all come under siege, often by opponents wielding the country’s strict blasphemy laws as a cudgel. In January, the Pew Research Center reported, “The Middle East and North Africa was the most common region for sectarian violence; half of all countries in the region in 2012 experienced this type of violence.”

I just finished reading Grant Hardy’s Understanding the Book of Mormon, A Readers Guide A scholarly book discussing the narrators of the Book of Mormon: Nephi, Mormon and Moroni. Studying this has increased my testimony in the Book of Mormon.

I took the following Great Courses series on Sacred Texts of the World first which set a very excellent framework for understanding the Book of Mormon, especially since lecture 29 (of 36) is Related Traditions-Mormon Scriptures.

ORIGINAL

After listening for 18+ hours, I highly recommend this course. Prof. Hardy has a love for and in-depth knowledge of these sacred texts. He does an excellent job of set up, context, and comparison between the text. He stays focused on the text themselves and doesn’t let himself stray beyond what’s needed to understand them.

Professor Hardy positions the LDS sacred texts perfectly within the course material. I am thrilled at how much this increased my testimony of the LDS sacred texts, at my age anything that can increase my testimony this much is very impressive.

Why?

As a Mormon I go back to the Hebrew when studying the Bible. I translate from English to Hebrew, then I copy the Hebrew and paste it in the From field and convert back to English, sometimes starting with the Hebrew.

I was working with DOD translators, translating To a language or the translation From that language can sometimes avoid confusion. Looping to find a way of saying things that translates to and back with your intended meaning or being able to ask the person in the other language what if that is what they meant; and going one step further to ask if what translated back-and-forth correctly and desirably was with they meant.

Searching LDS.org for both “Genesis 3:16” and “Gen. 3:16”

Genesis 3:16 states that Adam is to “rule over” Eve, but this doesn’t make Adam a dictator. A ruler can be a measuring tool that sets standards. Then Adam would live so that others may measure the rightness of their conduct by watching his. Being a ruler is not so much a privilege of power as an obligation to practice what a man preaches. Also, over in “rule over” uses the Hebrew bet, which means ruling with, not ruling over. If a man does exercise “dominion … in any degree of unrighteousness” (D&C 121:37; emphasis added), God terminates that man’s authority.

Now, Virginia, you call attention to the statement in the scriptures that Adam should rule over Eve. (See Gen. 3:16.) You ask why this is so. I do not know. I regrettably recognize that some men have used this through centuries of time as justification for abusing and demeaning women. But I am confident also that in so doing they have demeaned themselves and offended the Father of us all, who, I am confident, loves His daughters just as He loves His sons.

I sat with President David O. McKay on one occasion when he talked about that statement in Genesis. His eyes flashed with anger as he spoke of despotic husbands and stated that they would have to make an accounting of their evil actions when they stand to be judged by the Lord. He indicated that the very essence of the spirit of the gospel demands that any governance in the home must be done only in righteousness.

My own interpretation of that sentence is that the husband shall have a governing responsibility to provide for, to protect, to strengthen and shield the wife. Any man who belittles or abuses or terrorizes, or who rules in unrighteousness, will deserve and, I believe, receive the reprimand of a just God who is the Eternal Father of both His sons and daughters.

There are Official Bloggers. I am not . The purpose of this post is to help me keep from getting lost in the absolute total amount of information that is being placed on the web by the LDS Church official websites and related activities like RootsTech.

I called these acts of kindness to myself, I’ve been disabled for about six years at this point and with limited energy, I am relying heavily on LDS websites and related pro-LDS materials like RootsTech.

Using a syllabus as a starting point;

For example, I would add to this to GS 1340 syllabus, when I was a youth I asked people, relatives and others, what questions to ask others. For example, while I was traveling to meet an Aunt, I would ask what questions I should ask her.

Leading to my second favorite question, which was why ask them that. Then comparing the two answers, lead to my third favorite questions.

I framed the questions as, what can I learn from your experience? Advising a youth is a lot easier than admitting partial success and failure, nothing ever succeeds absolutely (like the Atonement).

From experience, I found that by telling people that I was going to tell who gave me the question, if asked; cut down on mean questions.

Video

Success story number two comes from John Bunyan’s The Pilgrim’s Progress. He gives an account of the man with the muckrake who had spent his lifetime raking unto himself the chaff and muck of the earth. However, there was an angel standing over his head with a celestial crown in his hand, offering to exchange the crown for the muckrake. But because this man had trained himself to look in no direction but down, he disregarded the offer of the angel as he continued to rake unto himself the chaff and dust of the earth.

There is also an angel standing over our head with a celestial crown in his hand offering to exchange it for our muckrakes if we will just look up to God and faith and righteousness and understanding. The beast was put down on all fours and thus his vision is cast upon the ground, but man was created upright in the image of his maker that he might look up to God.

When I find myself skimming and skipping through text, I accept that the problem is my reading speed and listen to it being read quicker than I read while following along. This way I can listen to related and cascading talks and pages. Saving to listen again while doing choirs.

Then I go back to deconstruct 1/ key sentences and scriptures, and watch videos. Looking for photos and screen shots to Tweet (kebotx). Them I deconstruct the paragraph or each scripture group, and then their combined larger group working up to the piece or for example D&C Section. For me I have found significance Holy Spirit guidance looking in the dictionary and thesaurus, prefix and suffix charts. Adjectives and adverbs which I can plan and measure. I have found an extended, quickly-recalled vocabulary to be an excellent source for direct revelation. Occasionally, drawing Mind Maps, writing poetic stanzas and Lateral Thinking puzzles.

At BYU, I passed (A) as a Freshman, 301 Logic and Language. I write logic stanzas and have found the gospel to be extremely solid from a pure logic perspective.

The classics of literature, as well as the words from holy writ, teach us the endurability of anonymity. A favorite of mine is Charles Dickens’”A Christmas Carol.” I can picture the trembling Ebenezer Scrooge seeing in vision the return of his former partner, Jacob Marley, though Jacob had been dead for seven years. The words of Marley penetrate my very soul, as he laments, “Not to know that any Christian spirit working kindly in its little sphere, whatever it may be, will find its mortal life too short for its vast means of usefulness. Not to know that no space of regret can make amends for one life’s opportunity misused! Yet such was I!” (“A Christmas Carol,” in The Best Short Stories of Charles Dickens, New York: Charles Scribner’s Sons, 1947, p. 435.)

After a fretful night—wherein Scrooge was shown by the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present, and the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come the true meaning of living, loving, and giving—he awakened to discover anew the freshness of life, the power of love, and the spirit of a true gift. He remembered the plight of the Bob Cratchit family, arranged with a lad to purchase the giant turkey (the size of a boy), and sent the gift to the Cratchits. Then, with supreme joy, the reborn Ebenezer Scrooge exclaims to himself, “He shan’t know who sends it.” (“A Christmas Carol,” p. 481.) Again the word anonymous.

A Bright Shining Star 2010

My Christmas reading each year helps bring to me the spirit of the season. I always read the same three texts and have done so for more years than I can remember. I read once again a very small volume entitled The Mansion, by Henry Van Dyke. Its message always touches my heart. Also, I read the timeless Dickens classic A Christmas Carol. Who could fail to be inspired and taught by the changes which come to Ebenezer Scrooge as he is instructed by the ghosts of Christmas past, Christmas present, and Christmas future? Finally, I read from the second chapter of the Gospel of Luke, where the birth of the Savior of the world is recounted.

Recreation Facilities

Allen Community Ice Rink
Allen Community Ice Rink is a full- size, state-of-the-art ice surface measuring 85’ by 200’ with a general seating capacity for over 300 spectators. Amenities include locker rooms, equipment shop, meeting rooms, off-ice training areas, and skate rental. An on-ice harness is available as well.

Allen Senior Recreation Center
The Allen Senior Recreation Center is a recreation center for persons 50 years of age and older, including their spouses. The center is operated by the Allen Parks and Recreation Department. Offering a variety of programs, trips and special events, activities and classes are low-cost or free.

The Courses at Watters Creek
A 260-acre course owned by the City of Allen and operated by the Parks & Recreation Department. The course is located west of Highway 75 Central Expressway and just north of Chase Oaks Boulevard and Legacy Drive.

Don Rodenbaugh Natatorium
The natatorium provides both land and aquatic fitness classes, open swim times for the general public, small class swim instruction, Red Cross certification classes for Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor, room rental for hosting birthday parties, and an indoor rock climbing wall.

Ford Pool
Ford Pool opens for the summer season only. The weekends of May 26-28 and June 2-3 the pool will open from 1 to 6 p.m. It will be open daily from 1 to 6 p.m. beginning June 4. Regular summer hours end August 26. The pool will remain open on weekends through Labor Day, September 3.

Joe Farmer Recreation Center
The Joe Farmer Recreation Center has a fitness room, full-size gym, two racquetball courts, walking/jogging track, game room, locker rooms, meeting rooms and a hillside amphitheater. Membership is required to use the facility.

The Edge Visitor Center
Located on the south end of Allen Station Park, the complex features a concrete skate park, two roller-hockey rinks, BMX track and Visitor Center.

I love this.

At times I wonder how I have missed anything as precious to me now as W. W. Phelps’ poetic treatment of the Doctrine and Covenants Section 76.

Let’s Rapid-Listen the Primary 2014 Outline for Sharing Time

Instead of my attention being paid on reading something myself, I use this effort to prayerfully listen for the Holy Spirit, stop to wonder, and read myself or re-listen slower. vBookz-PDF makes this interaction easy. Interaction also increases memory.

Example: Pausing (a very slow click) brings up this menu:

“Copy” saves the link to the paste buffer

Another pause.

“Save Image” stores the photo to your Photos Album:

Then create your tweet:

1. Write your message

2. Double click and Paste the Link

3. Import the photo

4. Update your message, as I learned specifics from the URL.

Works the same for Facebook.

I try to always put a link where I found the photo and have found from experience that this is an excellent visual index for me to get back to the webpage source, especially when from a video snapshot.

Then use the image on your Lock Screen

Open the photo in your photo album

Click in the black space

That image is usually sized correctly

Do a screen snapshot, simultaneously click Home and Power

Use the screenshot as the Lock Screen’s Wallpaper

Pause (a very slow click) on the link, “Copy”, double-click in a Notebook and “Paste”.

That easy.

Also for storing links to photos.

This example creates a new Notebook called News Room and saves the link to LDS Newsroom.

Pause on Newsroom and then select Copy. This stores the link in the paste buffer.

Start LDS Library

Creating NEW (see bottom) Newsroom

Click the note icon at bottom then the Plus sign to add notes.

Double click note and “Paste”.

After the link changes color, clicking the link will branch to the LDS Newsroom web page.

Satan is trying very hard to remove my life’s pauses, I am putting them back as times to prayerfully sense the Holy Ghost. A Bad Comma is a missing comma that changes the meaning. Here the pause gives us time to evaluate the web location before we go there and to listen for a warning from the Holy Spirit. I taught engineer processes with pauses, a students asked me privately if that is where “prayer happens”.
